Week of 7/13 Wrap up and Sunday Sneak Peek

Wow, what a busy week here! I’m almost glad that it was so humid today… it forced me inside, which forced me to catch up on things.

Lamp in the Spotlight
The week kicked off with a surprise. Cutting Edge Stencils featured my Designer Lamp on their blog! Their blog post was really well put together and I’m flattered by all of their compliments. Thank you again to Hometalk and Cutting Edge Stencils for inviting me to participate in this challenge.

The Latest Project and a Contest
The new project for the week was a DIY Dog Poop Bag Dispenser disguised as a birdhouse! It’s clever little problem solver for a crappy situation. I’ve had mine in the backyard for a few weeks now and I love it. On the weekends I spend nearly all day in the yard with Coco and it makes picking up after her so convenient.

Can I ask for your help? RYOBI is sponsoring a “Dog Days of Summer Contest”. They are seeking pictures of “DIY projects for the animals in your life.” I submitted my poop bag dispenser because it seems like perfect fit for this contest. The prize is $500 in RYOBI tools, but it also means some serious bragging rights for my blog. Plus, it could mean opportunities to do other projects that I could share with you and possibly even some giveaways in the future for you as well.

This is the part where I need your help. I need votes and shares in order to win. Would you please register with RYOBI (just some basic info like an email address, etc.) and vote for my project? You can vote every 24 hours. In addition to voting, you can also pin and share my project from the RYOBI page which would also help increase my chances. Thank you for your help with this and thank you to those who have already voted. I REALLY appreciate it!

Garden
It’s been a cucumber frenzy around here! First, I made some refrigerator pickles with my homegrown cucumbers at the beginning of the week. This is the first time I’ve ever made pickles. I used this recipe and they were really tasty. Then today I canned 12 pints of pickles using this recipe. I harvested enough cucumbers to make another 12 pints, plus there are still more on the vines! These cucumber plants sure are prolific and I’m loving it.

This morning I harvested four of the seven types garlic I planted last fall. This will be the second year for growing garlic. Last year the bulbs were big and robust. This year they were kind of puny. Oh well, I’ll still use them (probably in my next batch of pickles!). Do you have any garlic growing tips?

Surprise
I had a surprise on my deck this week. I walked out and found these cool tiki glasses. Turns out it was my friend Tina who left them – Thank you Tina! I’ll definitely be enjoying an ice cold beer in these while relaxing in my tiki hut soon!

Sunday Sneak Peek
Are you ready for the Sunday Sneak Peek? I was thinking about the Sunday Sneak Peek while walking at the park this morning. I want to get you involved too. What projects are you working on? Want to share a sneak peek here? Send me an email ([email protected]) with a pic and a quick description and I’ll try to share it here on an upcoming Sunday Sneak Peek!

Here’s a pic of the project I’ve been working on. It was finished and delivered yesterday. Any ideas what it is? Plans will be coming soon…
