Saws on Skates is Moving, Folding Workbench Buzz and More Printed Plans

Hey there friends! I just had a few days off to relax from the daily grind. It’s amazing the ideas you come up with when you have time to chill and brainstorm. I’m absolutely brimming with ideas for DIY projects and the blog. I want to start working on all my new ideas… NOW!

One of the things I finally figured out is how to pin a pic from the blog to Pinterest. Now you can simply hover over any of the post pics and easily pin to Pinterest – woo hoo!

Saws on Skates is Moving
I decided it’s time to move Saws on Skates. I’m not talking rearranging my workshop, I’m talking about moving the blog from a WordPress hosted site to a self-hosted site. Don’t worry, nothing will change for you. Moving the site will give me the ability to access some customization options that are not currently available on this platform. Those customizations should yield for a better user experience for you. The address will still be www.sawsonskates.com, the site will still feature all of the free DIY projects you’ve come to love and the site will look the same… at least initially 😉 I have more plans for the look of the site down the road, but one step at a time.

I’ve been told all of my followers will move with me to the self-hosted site. That said, I don’t want to lose you guys! Some of you have been with me since the beginning. Let’s stay connected! I just set up a Saws on Skates Facebook page, Saws on Skates Instagram page and Saws on Skates Twitter account. Along with regular blog updates, I’ll also post updates about the site move on these sites. I post every Tues-DIY here on the blog, so if you stop receiving emails about new posts, please come back and follow again. Like I said, the transition should be seamless, but I definitely don’t want to lose any of my DIY friends 🙂

Folding Workbench Buzz
My new plan posted last week has created a little buzz. Did you see the folding workbench plan? It’s a sturdy workbench that folds into a neat little package.

My aunt sent me a message and said “…it serves as an additional table for inside the house or outside the house in the yard whenever it’s needed. Throw a table cloth on it and it’s good to go!” I responded by saying “Those are great ideas!!! I should hire you to promote my Saws on Skates projects! Well, you should come on board as a volunteer. There aren’t any paid positions yet!”

My aunt followed up with “Just in time for the upcoming outdoor party season, fall tailgate season, then indoors for extra space for Thanksgiving spreads and Christmas parties.” I guess it serves double duty as folding workbench and impromptu banquet table! I think my aunt is pushing to become the volunteer PR person for Saws on Skates 😉

A fellow blogging friend Brian at Want Some Honey had this thought about the folding workbench…

Thanks Brian – that’s a great idea too! I’m working on an idea of my own for the folding workbench. It’s an idea for a helpful accessory and if it proves functional, I’ll be posting the plans soon.

By the way, I love your comments and input!!!

More Printed Plans
My Cottage Shadow Box is one of my more popular pins on Pinterest, so I thought it deserved a printed plan. The Cottage Shadow Box printed plan is now available and you can click here to download a pdf of the plan.

That’s it for this week friends. Please remember to follow Saws on Skates on Pinterest. And now follow Saws on Skates on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. These sites are a little light on content right now, but I’ll be posting more soon. Let’s catch up next week 🙂

  1. Congrats on the move, Scott! You will love having your site self-hosted – it opens up more monetizing opportunities! Have a great weekend! 🙂

    1. Thank you Cher! I just had the other site figured out and now I have to learn this one! No worries… I’m looking forward to the challenge and the opportunities 🙂 Have a good weekend!

  2. Hey Scott, I love the Folding Workbench project. Planning to build one for each of my 3 boys as Christmas gifts. One question….I’d like to be able to secure/lock the leg portion into the table top so it is all held tight if stood up against a wall. Any ideas? Thanks for your blog!

    1. Thank you – I’m glad to hear you’re planning to make the folding workbench! I have an idea for you as this was something I was thinking about. My thought was to drill a hole on each side of the table apron and through the leg, then secure the top to the leg with a bolt and wing nut. This way it could still easily folded when not in use and the legs would be secure when in use. Hope that helps 🙂
