The Unproductive Weekend
Hey there friends! I really wanted to tell you about all of the projects I completed this weekend, except I got nothing done… Zero! Zip! Nada! I planned to tell you I finished staining the vanity I have been working on, completed new knockoff plans for you and a few other goodies. But for whatever reason the DIY stars were not aligned for me this weekend.
Before we dig in to all of the things I didn’t get done, did you know Saws on Skates moved? Remember last week when I told you I was planning to move the site to a self-hosted platform? Well, it’s done! The site moved and I bet you didn’t even notice. I still need to make a few tweaks, but for the most part everything looks as it did before. Now that the site is self-hosted I have the ability to fix a few behind the scenes things that always bugged me. I’ll be tending to those in the next few weeks.
Vanity
Over the past few weeks I have been working on a vanity for a friend’s bathroom. This weekend I started staining it and I hoped to share some pics with you today. I chose one of my grey stain samples that looked good with the floor tile. Well, it looked good on a small scale, but it looked totally different on a large scale.
First I oxidized the vanity with a steel wool and vinegar solution which turned it a soft brown color. Then I applied a coat of Rust-Oleum “Sunbleached” (so far so good). Lastly I applied a coat of Varathane “Weathered Grey”. Then I set a floor tile next to the vanity… YIKES! It totally clashed. I immediately stripped the weathered grey with thinner. The sunbleached color stayed intact and I feel like it will provide a good base for a new color. This weekend I think I’m going to try a coat of Rust-Oleum “Kona”. I’ll let you know how it goes.
New Knockoff Project
I was so confident I would be sharing a new knockoff project with you today, but instead I’m telling you I didn’t finish it. I was so close to getting it done. Oh well, stay tuned, if all goes well I’ll be sharing an easy to make Ballard Designs knockoff project next week. In the meantime, here’s some pieces of wood I used for the project 🙂
That’s it for this week. I hope your weekend was more productive than mine. If this week goes better, there should be plans for a new project next week. Have a good week!
I like this vessel sink! I am planning on building a new vanity in my master bedroom/bath. Like this but double sinks. I love what you’ve done. The floors are beautiful! Nice work. 🙂
Thank you! Looking forward to seeing your vanity build – take lots of pics 🙂
You can count on it…well, then again, I’ve been known to forget to take pics. I do so many projects and this blogging thing is still new to me, so I do tend to forget to blog about it. Hahaha. 🙂
