DIY Cord Organizer for Charging Cables

The other day I was looking for stocking stuffer ideas. I know, I know. It seems too early to be thinking about the holidays, but looking way ahead into the calendar is part of my job as a content creator.

One of the ideas was an organizer for small cords, you know, the little ones you use to charge devices like your phone.

My first thought was, I bet I could scale down my extension cord holder and make it pocket-sized. So that’s exactly what I did, and I think it’s adorable.

And I made it in less than 30 seconds with my laser cutter! But you could use a scroll saw instead.

xTool provided the P3 laser cutter I used in this project. All opinions are my own.  

Step 1. Trace and Scale the Design 

I exported my extension cord holder from SketchUp as a JPG. I dragged it into xTool Studio, traced the image, and scaled it to size.

You can design your own, or, if you want a shortcut, I have the laser cut files available below.

Step 2. Cut Out the Cord Holder

Next, I followed my method for cutting wood with the xTool P3 to cut out the cord organizer.

Less than 30 seconds later, I had the cutest little cord keeper.

NOTE: You could use a scroll saw instead.

Step 3. Add a Finish (Optional) 

I left mine natural and unfinished, but you could apply a topcoat like polyurethane, paint, or stain. The options are endless.
